Ah, Quebec City. The beautiful architecture, the cobblestone streets, the quaint restaurants and laidback lifestyle…it’s that lovely little taste of Europe in North America. And whether you find yourself there in winter or summer, with kids or without, there’s plenty to see and do.
First things first: check out the Quebec City official web site. Besides listing all the current festivals and points of interest, you can customize your own vacation according to your age, personal interests and family dynamic.
Walking the Streets of Vieux Quebec
Walking the Old City is probably one of the nicest and most relaxing activities to be had in this beautiful region. Whether it’s wandering the gardens in front of the Parliament Building, strolling the bistros and boutiques of Rue de Petit-Champlain, or taking a walk down Terrasse Dufferin, there is much history and culture to take in. Not to mention the maple sugar-dipped soft serve ice cream.
Horse-Drawn Carriage Tours in The Old City
Extremely popular in the area are the horse-drawn carriage tours operated by Caleches du Vieux-Quebec. This year-round experience is available at three different levels: the 45-minute “Frontenac” tour which includes the Plains of Abraham, Parliament Hill, Chateau Frontenac and Joan of Arc Gardens; the 90-minute “Remparts” tour which adds in the Fortifications of the City; and the 2-hour “Champlain”, a combination of the “Frontenac” and “Remparts” tours with a visit to the residence of the premier of Quebec. Prices are $80, $150, and $220 per carriage, respectively.
